Is Swiggy an Indian Company?

Yes, Swiggy is an Indian company. It is a digital convenience platform that has transformed how people order meals, buy groceries, discover restaurants, and receive essentials.

A few taps on a phone, a restaurant kitchen begins preparing food, and an orange-shirted delivery partner soon appears at the customer’s door. This routine has made Swiggy part of daily life across Indian cities. Behind that convenience is a business that began as a Bengaluru startup.

Swiggy was created by Indian entrepreneurs for the Indian market. Although it has received investments from foreign companies and international funds, its origin, incorporation, headquarters, management, and operating identity remain Indian.

About Swiggy

Sriharsha Majety and Nandan Reddy established Bundl Technologies in 2013 as a logistics-focused venture. They later changed direction and entered online food ordering and delivery. Rahul Jaimini joined as a co-founder and helped build the platform’s technology.

Swiggy launched its food-delivery service in Bengaluru in 2014. The founders started with a group of restaurants and delivery partners. Their model focused on managing the delivery experience instead of depending entirely on restaurants.

The company expanded across India and added several services. Swiggy Instamart delivers groceries and items. Dineout offers restaurant discovery, reservations, and dining benefits.

Swiggy became a public limited company in 2024 and launched its initial public offering in November. Its shares are listed on the BSE and National Stock Exchange, marking its journey from a privately funded startup to a publicly owned company.

Who Owns Swiggy?

Swiggy does not have a conventional promoter under its stock-market classification. As a listed company, it is owned collectively by its founders, employees, domestic investors, mutual funds, foreign investors, venture-capital investors, and other public shareholders.

Prosus, through its investment entities, has been Swiggy’s largest institutional shareholder. The founders, including Sriharsha Majety and Nandan Reddy, also retain shares, although they do not hold a controlling majority.

Swiggy disclosed that its aggregate foreign investment had fallen to approximately 49.76 percent of its equity capital on 6 July 2026. This implied domestic ownership of around 50.24 percent. The company clarified that this movement did not itself change management, voting rights, or control.

Sriharsha Majety remains Managing Director and Group CEO, while Nandan Reddy serves as Whole-time Director and Head of Innovation. Anand Kripalu is the independent Chairman.

Is Swiggy Registered in India?

Yes, Swiggy Limited is incorporated and registered in India. The company was originally incorporated as Bundl Technologies Private Limited on 26 December 2013. It was later renamed Swiggy Private Limited and converted into Swiggy Limited before its public listing.

Its Corporate Identification Number is L74110KA2013PLC096530. It is registered with the Registrar of Companies in Bengaluru. Its registered and corporate office is at Embassy Tech Village, Outer Ring Road, Devarbisanahalli, Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Swiggy must follow Indian corporate, taxation, labour, consumer-protection, e-commerce, and securities regulations. Its listing also places it under Indian stock-market disclosure and governance requirements.

Why Is Swiggy Considered an Indian Company?

Swiggy is considered Indian because it was founded by Indian entrepreneurs, incorporated under Indian law, and headquartered in Bengaluru. Its services were created for Indian consumers, restaurants, merchants, and cities.

Foreign investment does not automatically turn an Indian company into a foreign company. Many Indian startups raise capital from global investors while retaining their Indian legal identity and operational base.

Swiggy’s founders, registration, management centre, stock-exchange listings, and primary market are connected to India. Therefore, it is described as an Indian technology and consumer-services company with a mix of domestic and international shareholders.
