Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad: Location, Address, Connectivity, Nearby Areas

Veer Savarkar Sports Complex rises above Naranpura with sweeping façades, broad entrance plazas and purpose-built arenas designed for major sporting events. On competition days, athletes, officials and spectators move through its separate gates, while the aquatic stadium and indoor arena become the centre of activity. Even from outside, the scale makes it very different from an ordinary neighbourhood sports ground.

Located in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, this modern multi-sport facility was inaugurated on September 14, 2025. Built at a cost of about ₹825 crore, it combines competition venues, athlete-training infrastructure, residential facilities and public fitness spaces within one campus. This article covers the new Naranpura complex, not the older AMC facility with the same name near Memco Char Rasta.

Location of Veer Savarkar Sports Complex

Veer Savarkar Sports Complex is located in Naranpura, a developed residential and commercial neighbourhood in western Ahmedabad. The campus extends around the Pragatinagar and Nandanvan side, close to Nirnay Nagar and Shastrinagar.

Gate No. 1 is commonly identified near Vardan Tower and Swanik Arcade in Pragatinagar. Other gates serve different arenas and sections, so visitors attending an event should confirm the gate number printed on their ticket, invitation or accreditation document.

The complex occupies the former Naranpura sports-project site at Shastrinagar. It was planned as an international venue capable of supporting professional competitions as well as athlete development.

Veer Savarkar Sports Complex Address

The commonly used address is:

Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, near Vardan Tower, Pragatinagar, Naranpura, Ahmedabad, Gujarat 380013

A more detailed entrance address may appear as:

Gate No. 1, beside Swanik Arcade, Nandanvan, Pragatinagar, Naranpura, Ahmedabad, Gujarat 380013.

Since the facility has seven gates and several separate sporting zones, entering only the complex name may not take visitors to the correct entrance. Event visitors should confirm:

  • Name of the sporting event
  • Arena or stadium name
  • Gate number
  • Ticket or accreditation requirements
  • Public parking instructions

The Naranpura venue should not be confused with the older Veer Savarkar Sports Complex at Saijpur Bogha near Memco Char Rasta. AMC continues to list that separate facility on Lal Bahadur Shastri Road.

Connectivity to Veer Savarkar Sports Complex

The complex is accessible by metro, AMTS bus, auto-rickshaw, cab and private vehicle. A short road journey is normally required from the nearest metro stations.

1. Metro Connectivity

Gujarat University Metro Station on Ahmedabad Metro’s East–West Corridor is generally the most practical metro access point. From the station, visitors can continue by auto-rickshaw or cab towards Pragatinagar and Naranpura.

Commerce Six Road and Gurukul Road metro stations are other useful options, depending on the passenger’s starting point and the gate being used. All three stations are part of the operational East–West corridor connecting Thaltej Gam with Vastral Gam through central Ahmedabad.

There is no metro entrance directly inside the sports complex. Visitors attending time-sensitive events should keep additional time for the last-mile road journey and entry checks.

2. Bus Connectivity

AMTS buses serve Naranpura, Shastrinagar, Pragatinagar and the surrounding residential areas. Shastrinagar is one of the useful local bus landmarks for approaching the complex, while other services operate through Ankur, Naranpura and the 132 Feet Ring Road corridor.

Bus routes and stops may be temporarily changed during international competitions or large public events. Visitors should check the latest route information and use the event gate as their final destination.

3. Railway Connectivity

Ahmedabad Junction, popularly known as Kalupur Railway Station, is the city’s main long-distance railway terminal. Visitors arriving there can use the metro, taxi or app-based cab to reach Naranpura.

Sabarmati Railway Station is another useful rail point for selected trains and may provide a shorter road approach from the northern side of Ahmedabad. The most convenient station will depend on the train’s scheduled halt.

4. Road Connectivity

Pragatinagar Road and Naranpura’s internal roads provide direct access to the complex. The wider area is connected through 132 Feet Ring Road, Ankur Road, Shastrinagar and routes towards Gurukul Road.

Visitors coming from Navrangpura or central Ahmedabad can approach through Vijay Cross Roads, Naranpura and Shastrinagar. Those travelling from SG Highway can use routes through Gurukul, Ghatlodia or Sola, depending on current traffic.

Traffic may become heavy before and after major events. Although the complex has parking for approximately 900 vehicles, parking gates and vehicle-entry permissions may vary for athletes, officials, spectators and general visitors.

5. Airport Connectivity

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport can be reached by road through Sabarmati, Subhash Bridge or the northern Ahmedabad road network. Travel time varies considerably during peak traffic and major sporting events.

Sports and Training Facilities

The campus combines professional competition areas with training and community-use spaces. Its main sections include an aquatic stadium, an indoor multi-sports arena, a Centre of Excellence, a community sports centre, a Fit India Zone and outdoor sports facilities.

The aquatic stadium is designed for swimming and other water-sport competitions. The indoor arena can accommodate sports such as badminton, basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. The wider campus also supports table tennis, squash, shooting, tennis, skating, yoga, kabaddi, kho-kho and outdoor fitness activities.

Athlete facilities include hostels, accommodation for coaches, medical support, nutritional guidance and spaces where competitors can study recordings of their techniques. The campus also has a 275-kilowatt solar-power plant and a sewage-treatment facility.
